Louisiana to Defy NOAA Fisheries on Red Snapper Fishing
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission is moving to implement a “Louisiana-only” red snapper season starting in 2013 that will allow anglers a far longer season than federal regulations permit.
In an announcement on May 4, Louisiana fisheries officials reacted to an unprecedented 40-day red snapper season this year for red snapper in the western Gulf of Mexico by announcing a formal break from NOAA fisheries starting in 2013. That means, like Texas, Louisiana will no longer mirror red snapper seasons set for federal waters by adopting the same regulations for state waters.

By the time the final gun sounded all Team Advanced Roofing could do was breathe a huge sigh of relief as they watched Team Get Lit release the last of a quadruple header about 10 minutes before lines out. When the fourth fish was released and Get Lit couldn’t hook up again, the Sailfish Pro Series title was Advanced Roofing’s to keep.
Florida Sets 40-Day Red Snapper Season in Gulf
The state season is the same as the recently announced federal recreational red snapper season.
The 2012 recreational red snapper season in Gulf of Mexico state waters will be June 1 through July 10, a total of 40 days.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) set the 2012 season Wednesday, May 2, at the Commission meeting in Crystal River.
